Reviving the Hawthorn Sisters by Emily Carpenter
Updated: Nov 24, 2020
A fast paced, engrossing Southern Gothic tale
Synopsis: Reviving the Hawthorn sisters has all the necessary elements required for a must-read novel!
Told in alternating perspectives this story features a lost treasure, a serial killer stalker, and an intricate web of family secrets surrounded by lies.
Eve runs a charity foundation in the name of her recently deceased grandmother, Dove Jarrod. Eve knows her grandmother wasn't all she claimed to be but Eve could never imagine just what Dove was hiding.
Born in a psychiatric hospital, Dove's life was never ordinary. As the years progress, Dove faces many suspenseful obstacles. She becomes part of a well known religious duo the Hawthorn Sisters. But when her past and present collide, Dove must make some difficult choices.
My thoughts/feelings: This book kept me entranced from page 1. It is definitely a must read. I was slightly annoyed with myself because the wonderful Sabrina Dax at Lake Union Publishing sent me a copy but I had a full October line up. I was not expecting this book to be what it was, but let me tell you -- it would have made the perfect addition to my October "spooky" reads and I should have made time for this book in October.
This book is a companion to Burying the Honeysuckle Girls, which I did not read. You can absolutely read and enjoy this book without having read the previous book. Emily Carpenter's writing is so flawless and her storytelling ability is superb. I am definitely adding Burying the Honeysuckle Girls to my TBR.
"Sometimes you've got to tear something down before you can build it back up again." (pg 107)
"It only takes an ember to start a fire." (pg 152)
Thank you so much to Sabrina Dax for reaching out to me and offering me a copy of Reviving the Hawthorn Sisters in exchange for my honest review. Thank you to #emilycarpenter for writing this fantastic book!
